About the Artist - Karen Hartsough
The
way I see it, watercolors are a lot like coffee. First, the
idea behind the artwork percolates. Next, the task of putting
the image to paper brews and finally, the creative blend of
color and texture is infused into a wide-awake, full-bodied
expression of art. You get the picture…

I am an artist. I love to paint. My most remarkable ideas
occur after a morning cup of fully-leaded joe. My creativity
is not borne from the coffee bean, but the two are definitely
in cahoots. Thus, the name…
"CAFFEINE GALLERY"
My art is about bold color, rich texture and brave design,
as I see it. I enrolled in a watercolor class at a local Park
District in 1990 after my father passed away. Our instructor
told the class that art is about eye-hand coordination. True
enough, but the soul is at the helm...
As an artist, I have been blessed with a little bit of good
luck and a lot of great timing. For me, art is about the strength
to cast aside self-doubt and fear; it’s about the courage
to not only finish a piece, but to show it to someone else;
it’s about translating the language of color and design
into a visible dialogue. It’s about having the tenacity
to continue dreaming until The Dream became my reality. Visualize
It and It shall appear!
In January 2008 I opened CAFFEINE GALLERY at the Mellwood
Art Center in Louisville. I presently reside in Crestwood,
Kentucky, with my loving family, my lazy pets and my loyal
golf clubs. My watercolors have made their way into private
and corporate collections around the globe. My work has been
published on the cover of "So…You Want to Be
Counted!", by Kathy Bury, 2007, Amazon.com.
